Empowering Farmers Through Sustainable Oilseed Initiatives

Biological Agri Solutions Association of India (BASAI) is pleased to support the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare for promotion of sunflower cultivation among small and marginal farmers of Merak Sahib Farmer Producer Organisation, Baramulla district, Jammu & Kashmir.

Baramulla district has been identified as a priority district under the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, which focuses on convergence-led agricultural development in districts with low cropping intensity, limited crop diversification, and relatively lower productivity levels. The district continues to face structural challenges in diversification and income enhancement.
The intervention aims to promote crop diversification, improve cropping intensity, and enhance farmer income while strengthening the local edible oil value chain.

BASAI has supported a sum of ₹2 lakhs for required primarily for procurement of certified sunflower seed as a CSR support. This is to ensure transparency and quality assurance, the seed is procured through the National Seeds Corporation, with BASAI Stewardship funds transferred directly for supply to the participating FPO.

BASAI’s support through Stewardship funding has significantly contributed to strengthening farmer collectives and promoting diversification in this agriculturally laggard district.

Towards self-reliance through sustainable oilseed value chains In #Baramulla, a #PMDhanDhaanyaKrishiYojana district #DDKY #J&K, Meraksahib Fed Fruit Producer Company Ltd. distributes sunflower seed distribution to farmers- for crop diversification, increasing cropping intensity, enhancing farmer incomes, supported by CSR

Delivered a special address to the trainees of the MANAGE and DoA&FW 45-day course, focused on exploring agri-entrepreneurial opportunities in agriculture. The participants included dealers from pesticides, seeds, fertilizers, horticulture, and dairy sectors—part of the training batch conducted by Jai Bajrang Pratisthan, Baraut (U.P.).

And of course, the session concluded with the popular signature selfie 🤳, capturing the spirit of learning and connection!

A heartfelt thanks to Sheoran Sahib, Vashim Sahib, and the Team JBP, Baraut, for their warm hospitality and to all 24 enthusiastic trainees of the 25th batch for their love and respect.

Strengthening Indo-Israel Collaboration in Agriculture: An Evening of Insightful Engagements

BASAI had the privilege of attending a Dinner Reception hosted by H.E. Mr. Reuven Azar, Ambassador of Israel, in honor of H.E. Mr. Avi Dicter, Israel’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, on April 8th. The evening featured enriching discussions on enhancing Indo-Israel cooperation in biological agri-inputs, protective technology, and stewardship. Interactions with the Embassy staff on promoting trade and allied activities were encouraging. It was insightful meeting Shri PP Chaudhary Ji and Shri Shekhar Gupta Ji to discuss agricultural biotechnology. A pleasant surprise was reconnecting with NLU batchmate Apurv Kumar Mishra. Grateful to Ambassador Azar and his wife for their warm hospitality.

BASAI visited the office of the principal scientific adviser to the government of India on dated 25.04.24

BASAI discussed opportunities within the Waste to Energy vertical of the PSA which ended up in production of biological end products being produced out of green/biological waste/biomass created out of the municipal/independent source level:

  1. Utilization of Biomass/Waste material of biological nature.
  2. Biological solutions applications on the field towards resolving the agri-waste material generated post-harvest e.g. paddy & wheat straw.
  3. Biological solutions towards tackling wet waste in independent house/societal level in a convenient odorless way so as to produce end use products as manure, etc.
  4. Concept Note (CN) on integration of a single legislation and regulatory mechanism to address the complex and inter-related display of properties of biologicals across various categories of use.
  5. Formation of a separate Agri-input vertical within the PSA work scope.
